Claude Opus 5.5 arrives at lower prices than Opus 5, about 40% cheaper to run
Claude Opus 5.5 launched on the Claude API, AWS, Google Cloud and Azure at $4 input and $20 output per million tokens, and Anthropic says it costs about 40% less than Opus 5 to run on typical workloads. Anthropic reports faster output, stronger prompt-injection resistance and clearer writing, with Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 due in the coming weeks. For teams running Claude agents at scale, the cheaper cache reads and overall price cut directly reduce operating costs.
